Party in the Park

Town staff will host a community party in Memorial Park July 25 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The annual event began as a celebration of Drowning Prevention Day, and has grown into an event  for all ages, with activities sponsored by Leisure Services, Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum, the Library and Latcham Gallery. In case of rain, activities will be moved to the Lebovic Leisure Centre.

Structured games for children will be held in the outdoor pool, with great prizes and giveaways. There will be free instruction and testing of swimmers’ ability, and lifejackets will be available if required. Staff will hold a 24 hour slide-a-thon to raise funds for the Lifesaving Society’s drowning prevention/Water Smart campaign.

Residents can sponsor a staff member or make a donation at the pool and, yes, they do slide for 24 hours straight. The public is encouraged to help with the sliding during outdoor pool opening hours.

A magician will perform in the park beside the pool from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., in a children’s event hosted by Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library.

Staff from the Museum will lead heritage games and activities, and the Latcham Gallery and RBC Foundation will host free family art in the park. Participants will be able to make their own creation to take home.

Random prizes for participants, courtesy of Pepsi, include a large cooler, large golf and a patio umbrellas, an iPod speaker, aluminum water bottles and more.
