Summer movies on the Park

Two Canadian movies will be shown at the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment-Nineteen on the Park July 2 as part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Film Circuit.

Sharkwater, which will be screened at 7 p.m., is a visually stunning documentary which debunks the usual stereotypes of blood-thirsty, man-eating monsters and illustrates the ruthless exploitation of these majestic sea creatures, whose existence is threatened by corruption and greed. Filmmaker Rob Stewart  has turned his passion for sharks into a riveting and at times harrowing plea for their conservation.

One Week is a celebration of Canada in all its scenic glory. It tells the story of a young man who embarks on a cross-country road trip on a vintage motorcycle after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite its sad premise, it is an uplifting ode to this wonderful country and all things Canadian, from Terry Fox to the Stanley Cup. If you love Canada, don’t miss this movie.

Tickets for each movie are $5 and are available in advance from the Nineteen on the Park box office. For information visit www.townofws.com/nineteen or call 905-640-2322.
