A downtown Christmas
On Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the merchants on Main Street invite everyone to join them for Christmas in the Heart of Stouffville, a seasonal celebration for all the family which includes free sleigh rides courtesy of Lionel’s Pony Farm, free draws, goodie bags and a visit with Santa.
Kids who love Christmas are invited to participate in So You Think You Can Sing Stouffville, a downtown carolling contest. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories: under five, six to eight and under 10, and contestants can choose to perform Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman or Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
Contestants can sign up as a soloist, group, church choir or school choir. Advance registration is now open at the Hearty Artichoke, 6333 Main St., and the contest will be held at noon on the day of the event, with prizes awarded at 3 p.m. WhiStle Radio will be on hand to provide live coverage.
There will also be a colouring contest, with posters being distributed during the Santa Claus parade on Dec. 5. Posters will also be available from downtown stores. Entries should be returned to The Multiverse and winners will receive their prizes at 3 p.m. in the town square.
Other activities include making your own Christmas decoration, a scavenger hunt for 11 to 17 year olds and a visit from Cymbelina the Clown. Stouffville Creek will hand out cider and hot chocolate to visitors. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on Christmas gifts and enjoy a wonderful afternoon with friends and family in Stouffville’s historic downtown.
