Local business holds blanket drive for Haiti

Reesor Farm Kitchen is holding a blanket drive for earthquake victims in Haiti.

Owner Jay Reesor worked with the Mennonite Central Committee in Haiti for several years. The organization has a number of ongoing and development programs in that country, said Joyce Turman, who works with Jay.

“They have asked for donations of blankets, sheets and relief kits to be sent to Haiti. The kits should contain personal hygiene items, laundry soap, towels and bandages,” she noted.

“The blankets will be distributed to the homeless and should be new, extra warm, and preferably twin-sized, but double or full-sized blankets will be accepted.” Flat sheets, which will also be used as mosquito netting, can be double, queen or king-sized. “They should be cotton, new and light coloured, because that makes them less attractive to mosquitoes.”

Donations can be dropped off until Feb. 6 at Reesor Farm Kitchen, 100 Ringwood Dr., or the Care and Share Thrift Shop at 6240 Main St. in the Latcham Gallery building. For complete information on the blanket drive, visit mcc.org.
